Frequently Asked Questions & Quick HelpUpdated a month ago

Here you'll find quick answers to the most common questions about your Flappie. For detailed guides, we've linked the full article for each topic.

Setup & Installation

How do I install the Flappie?
The Flappie is secured with screws in your existing cut-out — you only need a screwdriver. You'll find a step-by-step guide with video here:
→ Installation guide

How do I connect the Flappie to my WiFi?
Important: Flappie only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi (not 5 GHz). You set up the connection through the Flappie app. Have your WiFi password ready and make sure your router is within range.
→ WiFi setup

How do I set up the app?
Download the Flappie app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Create an account and follow the instructions to pair your Flappie.
→ Download & set up the app

What happens in the first 14 days?
Your Flappie needs a calibration period to get used to your cat and surroundings. During this time, the AI is still learning — so occasional false detections can happen. This is normal and improves over time.

Technical Issues

My WiFi won't connect
First check whether your router is set to 2.4 GHz — many routers default to 5 GHz only. Also make sure the signal is strong enough where the Flappie is installed.
→ WiFi won't connect

No videos in the app
If no videos are showing, first check your Flappie's WiFi connection in the app. Videos are uploaded via WiFi — without a stable connection, they won't come through.
→ No videos in the app

My camera shows black or has a red tint
Restart the Flappie (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug back in). If the issue persists, our support team is happy to help.

Detection

My cat isn't recognised or is falsely locked out
During the first 14 days, the AI is still learning. If issues persist after the calibration period, report false detections directly in the app — this helps the AI improve faster.
→ Cat not recognised / False detection

How accurate is prey detection?
Flappie detects prey with approximately 94% accuracy. That means it works reliably in the vast majority of cases, but no system is perfect. The AI continuously improves through updates and your feedback.

What is Cat ID and when is it coming?
Cat ID will be a free software update that lets your Flappie distinguish individual cats — no chip needed. The feature is currently in development. Once available, you'll receive it automatically via firmware update.

Dimensions & Compatibility

Will the Flappie fit my door/wall/glass?
The Flappie has a frame of 220 × 252 mm and a passage opening of 150 × 122 mm. For installation, you need a cut-out of at least 165 × 171 mm (door/wall) or a hole diameter of 212–260 mm (glass).
→ Will Flappie fit?

Will my large cat (Maine Coon) fit through?
The passage opening is 150 × 122 mm. Most cats fit through easily, but for especially large breeds, we recommend measuring your cat's shoulder width while standing.
