Start here: test, install and set up FlappieUpdated 8 days ago

The quickest way to get Flappie ready

Test and connect your Flappie before drilling and before permanent installation. This confirms that the device, app and Wi-Fi work, and prevents a software update from holding up the installation.

The process at a glance

1 · Check
Confirm the location, dimensions, power and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
2 · Test
Unpack, connect, power on and pair in the app.
3 · Install
Drill and mount only after the test succeeds.
4 · Start
Reconnect power, complete the final checks and let the update run.

1. Prepare

  • Use the compatibility check to confirm that Flappie fits your door, wall or glass.
  • Have your smartphone, Wi-Fi password and email inbox ready.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and make sure a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is available at the installation location. WPA2 and WPA3 are supported.
  • The power adapter needs an indoor outlet; the cable is 2 m long.

2. Temporary function test and app setup

A temporary function test means connecting Flappie on a table or safe surface before it is mounted. This confirms that the device, app and Wi-Fi work before any permanent installation.

  1. Temporarily connect the inside and outside units. The red stripe on the ribbon cable faces left.
  2. Plug in the power adapter and wait about three minutes. Do not press any buttons while Flappie boots.
  3. Install the app and create your account.
  4. Connect Flappie to Wi-Fi and the app.
Important after “Finish pairing”: During the pre-installation function test, unplug the power adapter within about 30 seconds if possible. This postpones the first major software update until after installation. If the update has already begun, let it finish completely and do not disconnect power.

How to know the test worked

  • Flappie appears online in the app.
  • The app reaches the setup-complete screen.
  • The far-right button can move the exit lock after startup.

3. Install

Pull the ribbon-cable connector straight up from the inside unit and install Flappie. Follow Install Flappie step by step for the complete instructions.

4. Final checks

  • Reconnect the ribbon cable with the red stripe on the left.
  • Reconnect power and wait about three minutes.
  • Check that Flappie appears online in the app.
  • Move the flap by hand several times in both directions. It must swing freely and close fully every time.
  • Leave Flappie plugged in while the automatic update finishes. It can take up to one hour and runs by itself.

What happens next

During the first four days, Flappie already detects and records events, but does not block entry when prey is detected. Prey blocking activates automatically afterwards.
