The first four days: what happens?Updated 5 days ago

Four days to settle in

During the first four days, Flappie already detects and records events, but does not block entry when prey is detected. This is the intended start phase, not a fault.

Why is there a start phase?

Your cat gets comfortable
It can learn to use the new flap without an unexpected lock.
Flappie adapts
The camera and detection adjust to the surroundings, lighting and typical movements.

What happens during these four days?

  • Flappie detects movement and cats.
  • Entries and prey attempts may already appear as videos in the app.
  • Exits are intentionally not saved.
  • If prey is detected, the flap still stays open. A mouse can therefore still get inside during this period.
  • Infrared lighting allows detection in the dark.

What happens afterwards?

After four days, prey blocking activates automatically and you receive a push notification. From then on, Flappie checks whether your cat is carrying something in its mouth when entering and keeps the entrance closed when prey is detected.

What you can do

  • Report incorrect detections: Submit feedback directly on the relevant video in the app. This helps improve detection.
  • Keep the lens clean: Clean it about once a month with a dry microfiber cloth. For heavier dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water; do not use cleaning products.
  • Watch your cat: Keep an eye on the first passages and do not rely on Flappie alone when you are away for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the four days?
No. The start phase runs automatically.

My cat is not using Flappie yet—is that a problem?
No. Some cats need more time. Gently encourage your cat through the flap with treats, without pressure.

Does detection work in the dark?
Yes. Flappie has its own infrared lighting.

A GPS tracker was incorrectly detected—what should I do?
Report the incorrect detection on the video in the app. A single incorrect detection is not a hardware defect.
