Cat ID Labs and planned launchUpdated 5 days ago
Cat ID starts with a beta program
Cat ID will first be available through Cat ID Labs. Interested Flappie owners will be able to participate, test the feature and help improve it before the wider launch.
What Cat ID is designed to do
Cat ID uses the Flappie camera to recognise individual cats by their facial features. The goal is to let your own cats enter while keeping unfamiliar cats outside—without requiring a collar or microchip reader.
What happens first
- Flappie will announce Cat ID Labs in the app.
- Interested owners can apply or opt in when participation opens.
- Participants will test an early version and provide feedback.
- The feature will improve before the wider release.
Expected launch
The wider Cat ID launch is currently expected in September 2026. This timing may change as the Labs results are evaluated. The latest news and participation details will be shared through the Flappie app.
What works today
Cat ID is not yet generally active. Until Cat ID Labs or the wider launch reaches your device, Flappie cannot distinguish your cats from unfamiliar cats. Prey detection continues to work independently.
