Install Flappie step by stepUpdated 5 days ago

The most important rule

Fully test and pair Flappie before drilling. Begin with Start here: Test, install and set up Flappie. If a device has no installation marks, it is much easier to exchange or return if there is a problem.

What you need

  • Flappie inside and outside units, the original power adapter and the correct pair of screws
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • For a new cutout: drill, jigsaw, pencil and tools suitable for the material
  • For wall installation: suitable wall plugs and screws for the masonry
  • For glass: a professional glazier—never drill glass yourself

Important dimensions

AreaMeasurement
Outer frame223 × 259 mm
Cat passage150.5 × 126 mm
New door/wall cutout166 × 170 mm
Existing rectangular openingmaximum 175 × 210 mm
Glass holeØ 212–215 mm directly; above 215 mm and up to 260 mm with the mounting adapter

Installation step by step

1. Complete the function test

Connect Flappie to the app and Wi-Fi near the planned installation location. Complete the full pairing before installation. After tapping “Finish pairing,” unplug the power adapter within about 30 seconds if possible so the first major update starts after mounting. If the update has already begun, let it finish and do not disconnect power.

2. Prepare the cutout

Check an existing opening or mark a new one. No template is needed: mark the two screw points directly against the device.

3. Insert the parts

Position the outside unit from outside. Click on any required tunnel extensions, then position the inside unit from inside. Do not tighten it yet.

4. Connect the ribbon cable

Red stripe on the left. Push the connector straight and fully into the socket on the inside unit. Inserting it the wrong way round can damage the device. For a standard installation, leave the cable connection on the outside unit untouched.

5. Screw the inside and outside units together

  • Glass: The screws pass through the existing round hole. Never drill into glass.
  • Wood or wall: Mark the screw points directly against the device and pre-drill for the material.
  • Select the correct M4 screw pair for the wall thickness and tighten both sides evenly.

6. Route the power cable

The cable runs from the inside unit through the cable channel and can exit at the bottom-left or bottom-right. Keep the power adapter indoors. Outdoors, it may only be placed inside a weatherproof enclosure rated at least IP44. Extend the 230 V side, never the 12 V cable, and do not use a third-party power adapter.

7. Complete the final checks

  • Connect Flappie and let it boot for about three minutes.
  • Check in the app that the device is online.
  • Move the flap several times in both directions. It must swing freely and close fully every time.
  • Check the fit, seal and cable routing.
  • Leave Flappie plugged in while the automatic update finishes. It can take up to one hour.

Accessories

  • Tunnel extensions for doors or walls over 36 mm thick, up to six extensions and 200 mm total thickness.
  • Mounting adapter for glass holes above 215 mm and up to 260 mm, and as a spacer for very thin glass.

Time required: If the cutout, outlet and accessories are ready, mounting typically takes 5–15 minutes. App setup and the function test take additional time.
