<h3 id="1-complete-the-function-test">1. Complete the function test</h3>
<p>Connect Flappie to the app and Wi-Fi near the planned installation location. Complete the full pairing <strong>before</strong> installation. After tapping &#x201C;Finish pairing,&#x201D; unplug the power adapter within about 30 seconds if possible so the first major update starts after mounting. If the update has already begun, let it finish and do not disconnect power.</p>
<h3 id="2-prepare-the-cutout">2. Prepare the cutout</h3>
<p>Check an existing opening or mark a new one. No template is needed: mark the two screw points directly against the device.</p>
<h3 id="3-insert-the-parts">3. Insert the parts</h3>
<p>Position the outside unit from outside. Click on any required tunnel extensions, then position the inside unit from inside. Do not tighten it yet.</p>
<h3 id="4-connect-the-ribbon-cable">4. Connect the ribbon cable</h3>

Inserting it the wrong way round can damage the device. For a standard installation, leave the cable connection on the outside unit untouched.</div>
<h3 id="5-screw-the-inside-and-outside-units-together">5. Screw the inside and outside units together</h3>
<ul><li><strong>Glass:</strong> The screws pass through the existing round hole. Never drill into glass.</li><li><strong>Wood or wall:</strong> Mark the screw points directly against the device and pre-drill for the material.</li><li>Select the correct M4 screw pair for the wall thickness and tighten both sides evenly.</li></ul>
<h3 id="6-route-the-power-cable">6. Route the power cable</h3>
<p>The cable runs from the inside unit through the cable channel and can exit at the bottom-left or bottom-right. Keep the power adapter indoors. Outdoors, it may only be placed inside a weatherproof enclosure rated at least IP44. Extend the 230 V side, never the 12 V cable, and do not use a third-party power adapter.</p>
<h3 id="7-complete-the-final-checks">7. Complete the final checks</h3>
<ul><li>Connect Flappie and let it boot for about three minutes.</li><li>Check in the app that the device is online.</li><li>Move the flap several times in both directions. <h2 id="what-happens-during-these-four-days">What happens during these four days?</h2>
<ul><li>Flappie detects movement and cats.</li><li>Entries and prey attempts may already appear as videos in the app.</li><li>Exits are intentionally not saved.</li><li>If prey is detected, the flap still stays open. A mouse can therefore still get inside during this period.</li><li>Infrared lighting allows detection in the dark.</li></ul>
<h2 id="what-happens-afterwards">What happens afterwards?</h2>
<p>After four days, prey blocking activates automatically and you receive a push notification. From then on, Flappie checks whether your cat is carrying something in its mouth when entering and keeps the entrance closed when prey is detected.</p>

<p><strong>Does detection work in the dark?</strong><br>Yes. Flappie has its own infrared lighting.</p>
<p><strong>A GPS tracker was incorrectly detected&#x2014;what should I do?</strong><br>Report the incorrect detection on the video in the app. A single incorrect detection is not a hardware defect.</p>
