Flappie Buttons & Modes
On the top of your Flappie, you'll find four buttons with LED indicators underneath. Each button controls a different function — a short press toggles it on or off. When a mode is active, the LED lights up.
The 4 Buttons at a Glance

| Button (left to right) | Function | LED on | LED off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Cat ID | Activate/deactivate Cat ID | Cat ID active | Cat ID inactive |
| 2 — Prey Detection | Activate/deactivate prey detection | Prey detection active | Prey detection inactive |
| 3 — Lock Entry | Lock/unlock entry from outside into the house | Entry locked | Entry unlocked |
| 4 — Lock Exit | Lock/unlock exit from inside to outside | Exit locked | Exit unlocked |
All modes can also be controlled from the Flappie app — whichever is more convenient for you.
Cat ID (Button 1)
Cat ID is facial recognition for cats — think of it like Face ID, but for your cat. It allows Flappie to distinguish between your own cats and unfamiliar ones, so you can keep strays out while your cats come and go freely.
Note: Cat ID is currently in development and not yet available. The button is already on the device and will be activated via a future software update. Until then, pressing it has no effect. Learn more about Cat ID →
Prey Detection (Button 2)

When activated, Flappie's AI camera analyzes every entry and blocks your cat from coming inside if it's carrying prey. A short press on button 2 toggles this on or off.
After setup, prey detection stays deactivated for the first 14 days. This gives your cat time to get used to the flap and lets the AI calibrate to your environment. After that, it activates automatically and you'll receive a push notification.
Lock Entry (Button 3)

A short press locks or unlocks the flap from the outside. When locked, no cats can enter the house through the flap. Useful when you don't want cats coming in — for example during cleaning, or when you have guests.
Lock Exit (Button 4)

A short press locks or unlocks the flap from the inside. When locked, your cats can't leave the house through the flap. Ideal for keeping cats indoors at night or during bad weather.
You can combine entry and exit locks freely. For example: lock the exit but keep entry open, so your cat can come home but can't go back out.
Pairing Mode
The buttons also play a role during the initial setup: holding the two right buttons (Lock Entry + Lock Exit) simultaneously for 6 seconds activates pairing mode. All 4 LEDs will blink to confirm. For the full step-by-step setup, see Connecting Flappie to the App →
LED Indicator Summary
| LED behavior | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Single LED steady on | That mode is active |
| All 4 LEDs blinking | Flappie is booting up or in pairing mode |
| No LEDs on | All modes inactive (or check power connection) |
