Install Flappie (Step by Step)Updated a month ago

The Flappie is secured with screws — the inner and outer frame halves are screwed together from both sides. You only need a screwdriver. Installation typically takes 15–30 minutes if the cut-out is already prepared.

What's in the box?

  • Flappie (inner and outer unit)
  • Power cable (12V DC, 2-metre cable length)
  • Screws
  • Manual

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • A suitable cut-out in your door, wall or glass panel (see dimensions below)
  • A power outlet nearby — Flappie needs power (cable length: 2 metres)
  • A screwdriver

What cut-out do I need?

Wooden door or wall (rectangular):
At least 165 × 171 mm (width × height). The Flappie frame (220 × 252 mm) covers the edges.

Glass (circular):
Minimum diameter 212 mm. Up to 215 mm, Flappie fits directly. For 215–270 mm, you'll need a mounting adapter. Glass cut-outs should always be done by a professional glazier.

Floor clearance:

  • Glass installation (circular cut-out): at least 19 mm
  • Door/wall (rectangular cut-out): at least 27 mm

Tip: Measure your cat's belly height while standing — the bottom of the opening should sit approximately at that height.

Installation step by step

  1. Prepare the cut-out
If there's no hole yet: have the cut-out done by a professional (glazier for glass, carpenter for wooden doors). If you're handy, you can do it yourself for wooden doors.
  2. Check wall thickness
Flappie fits doors/walls up to 36 mm thick without accessories. For thicker walls, you'll need tunnel extensions — each adds 27 mm. Up to 6 are possible (maximum 200 mm wall thickness).

  3. Insert the frame
Place the outer frame from outside and the inner frame from inside. If you need tunnel extensions, click them between the two frame halves. Screw the two halves together.
  4. Connect power
Plug in the power cable (12V DC). Flappie is not battery-operated — it needs a permanent power supply.
  5. Set up the app
Connect Flappie to your WiFi through the app. You'll find a detailed guide here:

Do I need accessories?

Tunnel extensions — if your wall or door is thicker than 36 mm. Each extension adds 27 mm of depth. Only use original Flappie tunnel extensions — third-party parts don't fit properly and may leak.

Mounting adapter — if your glass hole is larger than 215 mm in diameter. The adapter fills the gap between the frame and the hole (up to 270 mm max).
